A 29-year-old man is in custody in Miami-Dade County after detectives used surveillance video to identify him as a suspect in a series of armed robberies, according to jail records and an arrest report.
Edgar Gabriel Montanepina was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly after 4:35 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies arrested him shortly before 1:10 a.m. that day at Southwest 114th Avenue and 190th Street.
Natalie Riano said she watched a robbery at the Fumar y Mas cigarette store at 11654 Quail Roost Drive. She said the man threatened her and her sister while demanding cartons of cigarettes and bags filled with merchandise. Police also say he threatened two other women during an armed robbery at the Maravillas Bus food truck at 11334 Quail Roost Drive, where he took $100 and fled on a bicycle.
Montanepina faces 10 charges across five new cases in Miami-Dade. Prosecutors filed charges in two of the cases from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. Those counts include armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault with a firearm. Circuit Judge Andrea Wolfson will preside over both cases.
The other three cases include two counts of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of firearm possession by a convicted felon and one count of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling.
