Residents of Brooklyn Lane in Lake Worth say the only road into and out of their neighborhood is deteriorating, and they worry emergency vehicles could soon be unable to reach their homes.

Neighbors blame a hole in a pipe under the road, which they say is eating away at the pavement. Resident Richard Scott said the problem has existed since 2019 and that the county will not fix it. Former EMT and police officer Doug Rua said fire trucks and ambulances may not be able to get over the damaged section, calling it a public safety issue.

Garbage pickup stopped when the road became too rough for trucks, according to residents. WPTV reporter Johann Hoffend recently saw county workers assess the damage and make temporary repairs that allowed trash collection to resume.

Those fixes are already showing wear after recent heavy rain. The county has said it cannot make permanent repairs because Brooklyn Lane is a private road. Residents are left asking who is responsible for a long-term solution. The county told WPTV it is looking into the issue.
