Jupiter Fire Rescue responded to its first residential structure fire since the city took over fire service from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue on Oct. 1. The blaze broke out just after 8 p.m. Wednesday at a house on Banyan Circle in Jupiter Village.

Jupiter police sent drones ahead of firefighters, giving crews information about the fire before they arrived, according to a post by the fire department on Facebook. Firefighters from all three stations reached the scene within five minutes and found heavy smoke and flames. They brought the fire under control quickly.

Everyone in the family got out safely, and no injuries were reported. The family lost the home but found temporary housing with relatives nearby. They were referred to the American Red Cross for more help.

The department called the fire an important first and said it showed the training and coordination between the city’s fire and police departments. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue served the city for 42 years, and the transition has been in the works for more than three years. Jupiter now has three new fire stations, at 500 U.S. 1, Abacoa Community Park and West Indiantown near Cinquez Park. About 94 firefighters work across three stations and three shifts.
