Residents at Marino Apartments in Jupiter say heavy rain repeatedly leaves parts of the property under standing water, sometimes forcing families to wade through it to reach their cars.

Resident James Ortman told WPTV the problem has become a routine part of rainy days for his family. At its worst, he said, the water has risen 10 to 12 inches around the front tires of his truck. He said his children, ages 9 and 5, should not have to guess whether the flooded area is a puddle, pond or lake.

Ortman said the water can affect simple tasks like getting the children into the vehicle. He said he does not want them walking through large amounts of standing water, and he described an area of about 1,500 square feet covered by eight inches of water. WPTV has not independently verified those measurements.

WPTV reporter Samantha Gutierrez has repeatedly asked management at Marino Apartments to explain the drainage problems and say whether repairs are planned. Management had not commented at the time of the report. Ortman said he wants management to understand what residents experience during heavy rain and to fix why the water keeps collecting.
