The first night of III Points’ 13th edition brought a mix of rain, art installations and a lineup that ranged from rising electronic acts to hip-hop veterans, according to the Miami New Times review of Friday’s opening day.
A light rain fell during the festival, which reviewers said offered a break from the heat even as emergency carts moved through the grounds to help attendees. The crowd kept dancing, the review said.
Indie-pop group Men I Trust opened the Mind Melt stage at 7:25 p.m. with a set that moved from shoegaze to ’80s-style synths. Cleveland rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony leaned on its catalog of hits, including “1st of tha Month” and “Thug Luv,” and paid tribute to Easy E, Biggie and Tupac.
Lil’ Kim drew praise for a 45-minute set that included covers of songs by Flo Rida, the Black Eyed Peas and Daddy Yankee. Tokischa, performing alone without backup dancers, was described as a performer still building toward headliner status. Detroit techno legend DJ Godfather and Miami’s Danny Daze closed out a set heavy on fast, bass-driven club music.
The festival continues Saturday, with the Miami New Times noting that the second night will again run into the early morning hours.
