South Florida is bracing for a wet and windy weekend as a cold front moves toward the region. WSVN 7Weather meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez said Saturday will be the biggest weather impact day, with widespread showers and thunderstorms developing after a brief morning break as tropical moisture increases ahead of the front.
The heaviest rain is expected across the East Coast metro areas, particularly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are forecast, with isolated amounts up to 6 inches possible. Coastal Palm Beach County could see some of the highest totals.
Because the ground is already saturated in parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, localized flooding is possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Showers and storms may linger Sunday as the front passes, but rain chances should drop as drier air moves in. North-to-northeast winds will strengthen, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph possible Sunday into early next week.
A Small Craft Advisory covers local waters from late Saturday through early Monday. Seas could build to 7 to 10 feet or higher, and wind gusts could approach gale force. Boaters should expect hazardous conditions offshore.
Temperatures will turn more comfortable, with highs in the low to mid 80s.
