Halloween falls on a Saturday night this year, but Miami-Dade families have plenty of options before the night of Oct. 31. A running list of free and low-cost events includes dog costume parades, trunk-or-treats, haunted houses and block parties across the county.

Several events are set for this week. In Doral, the Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade and Contest runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Trails & Tails Park, with a parade starting at 4:45 p.m. In Homestead, the Fall Spook-Tacular at Losner Park runs from 5 to 9 p.m. and includes a haunted house, a kids zone and a pumpkin decorating contest.

Other stops include Downtown Dadeland, the Miami Springs pool and the Wolfsonian-FIU in Miami Beach, which is hosting a free family storytelling and craft program from 1 to 4 p.m. Some events carry a fee. The City of North Miami’s Haunted Trails at Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park charges $7 plus tax.

Organizers say the list will be updated as new events are added, so families planning a night out should check back for changes. Many events list hours and locations on their own websites, and some require advance RSVPs or vehicle registration.
