A 24-year-old man accused of driving drunk in a fatal Sunrise crash is scheduled to appear before a Broward County Circuit Court judge on Friday. Joshua Saindyc surrendered to authorities the day before.
The three-vehicle wreck happened May 9 in the 2900 block of University Drive. Investigators said one person was killed and several others were hurt. The case has been pending for more than five months.
Detectives said Saindyc was traveling 117 mph in a 45 mph zone at the moment of impact. According to the arrest report, he was drag racing with a friend at the time.
Authorities said Saindyc’s blood alcohol level was .139 and .138 roughly two hours after the crash, nearly double the legal limit of .08.
The case is a reminder of the danger posed by impaired and street racing drivers on busy Broward County roads. Further details about the charges and his court proceedings were not included in the initial report.
