Democrat Katherine Waldron has defeated incumbent Palm Beach County Commissioner Sara Baxter in the race for the commission’s District 6 seat, according to election results reported Tuesday night.

Baxter, a Republican who had been endorsed by President Donald Trump, was seeking a second term. She was first elected to the commission in 2022, her first elected office. District 6 covers a large portion of western Palm Beach County.

Waldron, a former state lawmaker, previously served on the Port of Palm Beach District Board of Commissioners and in the Florida House of Representatives. She entered the race with experience in both local and state government.

The outcome flips the District 6 seat from Republican to Democratic control and ends Baxter’s tenure after one term. County residents in the district will now be represented by a commissioner with a longer record in elected office.
