An 88-year-old Delray Beach man died Oct. 15 from injuries he suffered in a crash at Hagen Ranch Road and Lake Ida Road, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at 7:11 p.m. Oct. 6. Deputies said Lea Levy, 83, was driving a 2019 Lexus RX350 south on Hagen Ranch Road in the left turn lane, where the signal showed a flashing yellow arrow. She turned in front of a northbound 2021 Lexus NX300F driven by Johnny Nguyen, 33, of Delray Beach, who had a green light.

The front of Nguyen’s SUV struck the passenger side of the Levys’ vehicle. Both cars spun counterclockwise and came to rest in the intersection and in the northbound lanes.

Moshe Levy, 88, was riding in the passenger seat. He was taken to Delray Medical Center and died there at 1:03 p.m. Oct. 15. Lea Levy and Nguyen were treated for minor injuries. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, and the sheriff’s report lists no charges.

The intersection is a busy stretch of Delray Beach, and the case is a reminder of how quickly a left turn against oncoming traffic can turn deadly.
