The City of Deerfield Beach will hand out fruit trees to local single-family homeowners on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Johnie McKeithen Park, 629 N Deerfield Avenue. The entrance is at NW 1st Terrace.

Trees are free and go out first come, first served while supplies last. Each household may take one tree. No registration is required, but attendees must show proof of Deerfield Beach residency when they arrive.

The trees come in 3- to 5-gallon containers and stand 1 to 4 feet tall. Visitors will go through a single pickup lane with five fruit tree varieties to choose from. City officials encourage people to arrive early and make sure their vehicles have enough room to carry a container tree safely.

The giveaway gives residents a chance to start planting at home without buying a tree. Organizers did not say how many trees are available in total.
