Families in Deerfield Beach are cleaning up after flooding on Saturday, Oct. 17, left furniture, flooring and appliances soaked in one neighborhood. Piles of ruined belongings line the street.

Resident Thomas Noland said water got under his vinyl flooring, leaving three to four inches throughout his house. Rooms closer to the road took six to seven inches, he said. His refrigerator stopped working and his cabinets are soaked.

Neighbors say this is not the first time. Jillian Lerner said her home has flooded three times in the past six years. Her family spent eight months out of the house after the first two floods, and she expects to be out about four more months after this one.

Lerner said her family moved back in March and received five inches of water seven months later. She moved her children to higher beds during the flooding, and said most of the family’s furniture was destroyed.

Lerner said she feels stressed every time it rains. Noland said the neighbors want action so the flooding does not happen again. “This problem is not going away,” he said.
