Dozens of young adults gathered in Coconut Grove on Sunday morning to pick up litter along the coast and help protect one of Miami’s waterfront spaces.

The cleanup was hosted by the Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group of the World Mission Society Church of God. The group goes by ASEZ WAO, which stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z, We Are One Family.”

Gabriel Perez of ASEZ WAO said residents should keep their neighborhoods clean because so many people visit the area’s beaches. He said the work matters for wildlife in the water as well as for people.

By the end of the event, volunteers had collected nearly 2,000 pounds of trash.
