Coconut Creek could soon get new volleyball and pickleball courts. At its October 8 meeting, the City Commission gave City Manager Sheila Rose consensus to move forward with the plan, according to the city’s report on the meeting.
The proposed site is a set of old tennis courts between the Coconut Creek Recreation Complex, at 4455 Sol Press Boulevard, and Lyons Creek Middle School, at 4333 Sol Press Boulevard. Rose said she and senior staff had met with members of the Broward County School Board about the idea.
The commission also agreed to set up a working group that will meet with the school board to discuss an amended joint use agreement, the document that governs how the school’s property is shared with the public.
The financial terms are not settled. The commission has not set a budget or decided who will pay for construction and maintenance of the courts. Rose can now begin developing and negotiating those finances.
For residents who play pickleball or volleyball, the project would add courts at a site that already serves recreation users. No construction timeline was given in the source material.
