Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes, and the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Miami Dolphins 31-24 on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The loss left Miami at 0-5 on the season, while Cincinnati improved to 3-2.
Burrow completed 23 of 32 passes for 190 yards without an interception. He connected with former Dolphin Mike Gesicki for an early touchdown, Samaje Perine on a 6-yard score and Tanner Hudson for a third-quarter touchdown. His fourth went to Ja’Marr Chase, who returned from concussion protocol earlier in the day.
Miami rookie Ollie Gordon II scored from 1 yard out to tie the game at 7 in the first quarter. Quarterback Malik Willis threw for 113 yards and a touchdown, but he was intercepted twice, both times by Bengals safety Jordan Battle. Willis did not complete a pass until the second quarter.
Willis gave the Dolphins a late spark with a 39-yard run and a touchdown pass to Kevin Coleman Jr. Miami went for two and cut the deficit to 28-18, then scored again with a quarterback sneak to make it 31-24. Miami couldn’t recover an onside chance in time to tie.
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks was ruled out with a foot injury. Rookie safety Michael Taaffe briefly left the game with a shoulder injury before returning.
Miami (0-5) hosts no one next; it visits the New York Jets (1-3) next Sunday. Cincinnati has a bye week ahead.
