A burglar smashed through the glass front door of a Miami Beach restaurant around 1 a.m. Friday and took the cash drawer from the register, according to surveillance footage obtained by 7News.
The business is 7tyone Restaurant & Coffee Bar at 1130 Normandy Drive. Video shows the suspect, wearing a hat and holding a rag over his face, going straight to the register behind the front counter. He pulled out the entire drawer and left, all within seconds.
Owner Liliana Arguinzones said a neighboring business called her hours later. When she arrived, she found shattered glass near the front door and a brick on the ground nearby. She said she has run the restaurant for 10 years and had never before experienced a break-in there.
Beyond the missing cash, Arguinzones said she now faces the cost of repairing the glass and upgrading her security system. She also asked the city to review street lights near the business, saying the area is too dark after sunset. She urged nearby business owners to watch out for one another.
Miami Beach police have opened an investigation. Anyone with information can call Miami Beach police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
