Tenants at Boynton Beach Mall say they have received lease termination notices from property owner Washington Prime Group instructing them to move out by Jan. 15, 2027. The notices come as questions circulate about a possible sale of the property.

The City of Boynton Beach told WPTV it has not been notified of a finalized sale. City officials referred questions about any acquisition to Washington Prime Group, which had not responded to WPTV’s requests for information about the sale or the site’s future as of the report.

Among the affected businesses is Sarku Japan, a restaurant that has operated in the mall since 1992. Kevin Ng, who has run the restaurant since 2020, said he expected the change but that the notice made it real. He said he is now trying to decide what comes next for himself and the family business.

The mall opened on Oct. 9, 1985, and was once a regular stop for shopping, dining and family outings. Today, WPTV found sparse parking lot activity, a quieter food court and vacant storefronts. Shoppers interviewed by the station said they would like to see the site revived, with some pointing to a major retailer as a way to fill empty space. Others said the mall still holds meaning for longtime residents.
