Bedner’s Farm in west Boynton Beach is offering a fall outing this October, with pumpkins, sunflowers, goats and a corn maze. Staff member Judi Brooker, who has worked with visitors at the family-owned market for more than a decade, said the farm is a good day trip for families.
The Bedner family moved to South Florida from Pennsylvania more than 50 years ago, looking for a warmer climate and new opportunities. The farm grows about 60 crops, including tomatoes, corn, strawberries, broccoli, kale and peppers. Its mission, according to the farm, is to grow fresh, affordable produce.
Visitors can pick out a pumpkin from a display Brooker described as a “pumpkin wonderland,” then take a tractor ride across the farm’s 80 acres. The ride shows how the farm uses tall crops as windbreaks and drip irrigation to manage South Florida’s climate. Bedner’s also keeps beehives on the property.
The corn maze changes every year. Brooker said it includes the occasional zombie and a few scarecrows, but the scares are meant to be playful rather than frightening.
Brooker said the farm is a good fit for any day off, and that visitors can enjoy the season without cold weather. Brooker also noted that Palm Beach County was once known as the winter produce capital of the United States.
