Miami duo B0yg1rl talked with Miami New Times during a photo shoot at the former RC Cola Plant in Wynwood, days before their set at III Points. The group’s set is scheduled for 12:20 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the Grand Central Stage at Mana Wynwood, 2217 NW Fifth Ave. Tickets cost $179 to $375.

Angela Rio, 21, directs and handles visuals for the group. June Vinette, 20, is the lead vocalist. Both said the act is built around the idea that people live inside their own stories and that power structures try to shape those stories. Rio said musicians have a responsibility to keep the illusion their image creates, and Vinette said the goal is to be free of circumstances.

The duo’s self-titled album came out Oct. 1. It grew from 12 songs recorded during a trip to Paris to 14 after a festival in Prague, and a late addition, “new wave,” came from a chance meeting with the artist Etra during a show in Mexico.

The group also points to a 2024 short film, “01,” which Rio directed. It is set in 2225 and follows a supercomputer that stores the history of a fallen Miami. The duo said the film is the basis for the project.

Rio said the group’s first III Points, held a year ago, was a turning point, and this year’s edition could be the last at the site because of the property sale. She said Miami changes quickly, with favorite restaurants closing within months.
