The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in the abduction of 22-year-old Eddrick Bethune from an apartment complex in North Miami. Bethune was later found dead in South Miami-Dade.
Investigators said the abduction followed a shooting around midnight on Oct. 4 at the Aliro Apartments, just west of the FIU Biscayne Bay campus. Residents told deputies they heard dozens of gunshots. Neighbors recorded video of people climbing out of a third-floor window and running from the scene.
Witnesses told investigators that two men wearing shirts marked “Police” beat a man and forced him into the back seat of a vehicle. Detectives later found a car matching that description near the spot where Bethune’s body was discovered, along SW 216th Street and SW 189th Avenue. Investigators said the vehicle had been set on fire.
The arrested man, Devorise Carl Johnson, 21, faces several charges, including first-degree murder and kidnapping with a weapon or firearm, according to an arrest form. He was denied bond on many of the charges and is expected to appear before a judge Friday.
