Palm Beach County’s Division of Mosquito Control will begin aerial spraying a half hour after sunset on Sunday, Oct. 11, weather permitting. The county said the operation responds to increased mosquito levels and the threat of vector-borne disease.

The target zone covers about 265,000 acres of populated areas west of Military Trail. It reaches from Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens south through Wellington, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton. It also includes unincorporated Lake Worth, the Acreage, Loxahatchee and Royal Palm Beach areas, and the Glades communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade, South Bay and Lake Harbor.

If weather forces a cancellation, crews will try again each evening until a spray run is completed. Residents who want to know whether a flight went up can call the Aerial Spray Hotline at 561-642-8775.

Anyone outdoors after dark should use an EPA-registered insect repellent and wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. The county also asks residents to drain or reduce standing water on their property to cut down on mosquitoes.
