Pinecrest Rotarians recently welcomed Mayor-Elect Shannon del Prado to a meet-and-greet attended by members of several other District 6990 clubs, including Coral Gables, Miami Airport and Perrine-Cutler Ridge/Palmetto Bay. Del Prado, who takes office January 1, 2027, said building a stronger sense of community will be one of her most important jobs as mayor. Her late father’s work with U.S. Rotary clubs on healthcare needs for underserved communities in Peru shaped her view of the organization, according to the club.

The newsletter also points to a busy stretch of charity events across Miami-Dade. After-School All-Stars South Florida marks its 30th anniversary with a “Nights in the Tropics” gala on November 6 at Jungle Island, with proceeds going to its after-school and summer programs. The Coral Gables Woman’s Club will hold its Gringo Bingo fundraiser on November 11, sharing proceeds with the South Dade Women Veterans Alliance. That group plans its own gala November 13 at the club’s clubhouse in Coral Gables.

Other recent events included the 200 Club’s Fall Dinner on October 13 at Riviera Country Club, which supports families of law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty, and Voices for Children’s Be a Hero Luncheon on October 30 at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel.

Ticket details for the After-School All-Stars gala are available through the organization’s website.
