Miami Springs has corrected conflicting school zone signs along Westward Drive, a week after Local 10 first reported that the signs on the same block showed different enforcement times. The street runs past Miami Springs Senior High School and Springview Elementary.

Viewers, including resident Kathryn Harlan, alerted the station to the problem. Both school zones now show matching start times, according to the city.

Police Chief said the signs were wrong and blamed RedSpeed, the company that operates the school zone cameras. In a statement, the chief said RedSpeed was delayed in updating the signs, which created a gap between the posted hours and the actual enforcement hours. The chief said the correct hours had been enforced since the start of the school year. The city confirmed the discrepancies have been fixed.

Some residents are still asking whether the confusing signs led to tickets. One driver said they received six camera tickets and blamed the signs. Ted Hollander, a Ticket Clinic attorney who represents drivers contesting school zone tickets, said the city and camera company should dismiss the tickets because their signs contradicted each other. RedSpeed did not respond to Local 10’s request for comment. Local 10 is checking whether similar sign problems exist elsewhere in Miami-Dade County.
