Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez said his office has distributed more than $104.6 million in unused funds for Fiscal Year 2026. The payments return about 73% of commission revenues to the county and other government entities.
Of the total, $90.465 million went to Miami-Dade County, including a previously advanced $20 million payment. The county’s General Fund received $76.103 million, and fire services received $9.618 million. Miami-Dade County Public Schools got $8.995 million, and The Children’s Trust received $3.311 million.
Smaller shares went to County Debt Service at $2.963 million, Library Services at $1.781 million, the South Florida Water Management District at $1.643 million and the Florida Inland Navigation District at $192,789.
The office reported the distributions under Section 218.36(2) of the Florida Statutes. Fernandez said every dollar saved can be reinvested in services for residents, and he pledged to keep modernizing operations and cutting unnecessary expenses.
The tax collector’s office collects and distributes revenues on behalf of the county and other taxing entities, so the returned funds reflect how much of its commission income was not needed to run the office.
