A new westbound Interstate 395 ramp to southbound Interstate 95 in downtown Miami is scheduled to open Thursday, Nov. 5. If weather interferes, the opening moves to Nov. 11.
Drivers heading to southbound I-95 will enter the ramp about 500 feet earlier than before. New overhead signs will guide them. The layout also removes the old merge point, giving the new southbound I-395 ramp one left lane. Two center lanes continue west on State Road 836, and one right lane heads to northbound I-95.
The Florida Department of Transportation calls the opening a milestone, but the broader job still has a long way to go. After earlier delays, completion is now expected in late 2029.
Crews started two major pieces this summer. One is a mechanically stabilized earth wall that supports westbound traffic as it moves from the MacArthur Causeway onto the elevated I-395 Signature Bridge. The other is a large concrete pour for the double-decked State Road 836 roadway just west of the Miami River.
The $866 million project is a partnership between FDOT and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency, with Archer Western and de Moya Group Joint Venture as contractor. The work adds capacity and an extra northbound lane onto I-95, with the goal of improving traffic flow, safety and access along I-395, SR 836 and I-95.
