PortMiami is rolling out a set of traffic management initiatives aimed at moving passengers and vehicles more smoothly ahead of its 2026-27 cruise season. The high season includes 81 days when seven to 10 ships are scheduled to call at the port.

Passengers are being urged to arrive only at their scheduled embarkation time. Two new videos, titled “Arrive at Your Embarkation Time” and “Choosing the Right Entrance,” will be shared on the seaport’s and partners’ social media accounts. Directional messages will steer travelers to the PortMiami Tunnel or the PortMiami Bridge, depending on their terminal. Taxis and rideshare vehicles have assigned entries and staging lots as well.

Other measures include a pilot program with Carnival Cruise Line that will offer free airport shuttles to Miami International Airport for Carnival Celebration passengers on select dates, beginning in October. Royal Caribbean’s complimentary airport shuttle for Icon of the Seas passengers will continue. Officers from PortMiami, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the Miami Police Department will help direct traffic around Biscayne Boulevard and downtown on select dates. The port will also use an AI-based camera system from GridMatrix to track congestion and predict bottlenecks.

The port says the changes are meant to reduce congestion downtown and on nearby highways, including Interstate 395. Cargo roadways will also serve as alternative traffic routes within the port.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and PortMiami Director Jonathan Daniels announced the plan. Daniels, who has been on the job for about eight weeks, said the goal is to keep the port moving safely. Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, who chairs the county’s Aviation and Seaport Committee, called the port a major economic engine for residents and visitors.

Downtown Miami drivers and residents should expect more traffic activity around the port during the cruise season. The schedule includes ships from October 2026 through August 2027.
