Millions of Americans are set to vote in person in the 2026 midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polling hours differ by state, and results begin posting once polls close in each state.
Voting starts as early as 5 a.m. ET in Vermont. Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Virginia open at 6 a.m. ET. The last polls to open are in Alaska and Washington at 11 a.m. ET and in Hawaii at 12 p.m. ET.
The first closings come at 6 p.m. ET in the eastern parts of Indiana and Kentucky. At 7 p.m. ET, polls close in Georgia, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, the rest of Indiana and Kentucky, and most of Florida. North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia follow at 7:30 p.m. ET.
More than 57 million voters have already cast ballots early. Forty-seven states and the District of Columbia offer early voting, though Alabama, Mississippi and New Hampshire do not. Eight states and D.C. automatically send mail-in ballots to every registered voter.
Voters who are in line when a site closes have the right to remain in line and cast a ballot, according to the story’s guidance drawn from a list of voter rights published by the ACLU.
