The City of Deerfield Beach has issued a weather alert warning of localized street flooding across the city. Heavy rainfall and coastal conditions could cause water to build up on roadways and in low-lying areas with poor drainage.

City officials urged drivers to take extra care. They said motorists should never try to drive through standing water and should not drive around barricades. If a road or lane is closed, drivers should look for another route.

The city also advised drivers to slow down and leave more space between vehicles, since water over a road can hide potholes and open drains, especially at night. Drivers should avoid creating wakes, which can push water into nearby homes, businesses and parked cars.

Residents should stay alert to changing conditions and allow extra travel time.
