A private jet headed to the Bahamas plunged from the sky Sunday afternoon in Greenacres, killing all nine people aboard. The crash happened near a mobile home community and has left hundreds of residents unable to return home.

Officials set up a shelter near the crash site, where roughly 35 people spent Sunday night. Police and other officials said the scene blocked the entrance to several neighborhoods, displacing around 600 people as investigators work. Residents were not allowed to move their cars to get to work Monday morning.

Joseph Santana, who lives in a mobile home community next to the crash site, said he heard a loud boom that shook his house. He described the aftermath as something out of a horror film and said he saw debris and people crying. He said there was no one left to save when he reached the scene.

On Monday, a Mass for Dia de los Muertos at Royal Palm Beach honored the victims. Bishop Manuel de Jesus Rodriguez of Palm Beach County led prayers for the dead and their families. Residents told 7News they are uncomfortable but grateful to be alive.

A federal investigation is underway, and officials have not said when displaced residents can go home.
