International Bible Church in Boca Raton is raising money for Books for Kids South Florida, a community program that plans to give 2,000 children across South Florida a set of five illustrated books on saving, earning, responsibility and smart money choices.

The books will go to children through the Fuller Center in Boca Raton, the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Organizers said the program aims to reach young patients, children from low-income families and refugee families who may not have books like these at home.

Each $50 donation pays for one full set. The church wants to fund all 2,000 sets by Dec. 5 so the books can reach children before Christmas. Donations are accepted online through the church’s giving page until that date.

Natalie Mak, a volunteer and program coordinator with the church, said many of the children are in hospitals or struggling families. She said the group is asking neighbors, families and local businesses to take part, and that a gift of any size will help.

The organizers cited research suggesting children’s attitudes toward money begin to form around age 7, which is the reason for starting early.
