A Wellington flag football coach is facing felony battery charges after a 15-year-old player said he choked her during a fight following a game.

The teen, Sophia Lopez, told WPBF 25 News that the trouble started as the teams lined up to shake hands. She said she exchanged words with an opposing player, who grabbed her by the hair and the two began fighting. Investigators said Brandon Mayer, the father of the other girl and the coach of her team, then stepped in. Sophia said Mayer wrapped his arm around her neck from behind and squeezed.
