A Miami woman who was cheated in a Facebook Marketplace sale says she has now been paid. She spoke to 7News on Friday, and asked not to be identified.
She had agreed to sell a shelving unit from her closed family business while her husband was in the hospital. She said the buyer arrived on Sept. 18 without money. After he loaded the merchandise into his vehicle, he promised to send her $250 through Zelle. The payment never arrived, so she reported the case to 7News and Miami police.
Weeks later, a payment reached her account. The victim said a relative of the man reached out days after 7News aired her story and paid what he owed. Because the family repaid her, she agreed not to press charges.
Miami Police spokesperson Mike Vega called the outcome a happy ending for both the victim and the man, who will not face charges. Vega said he expected a family member would step in. The victim said many people offered to pay her as well.
Vega advised buyers and sellers to check a profile for reviews before doing business, and to bring someone along during any transaction.
