Tamarac commissioners voted on Oct. 28 to approve the purchase of a Pierce Enforcer 107-foot aerial quint ladder truck from Ten-8 Fire & Safety LLC. The resolution allows the city to spend up to $1,899,752 from its Fire-Rescue Fund.

The purchase is part of the city’s apparatus replacement program. The new truck will replace a 2015 E-One Typhoon HP78, which is nearing the end of its recommended time as a front-line unit, according to city information. The longer ladder reach is intended to serve taller buildings and newer construction with tighter setbacks.

Because manufacturing and delivery take an estimated 38 to 41 months, the city needs to approve the order now to receive the truck in Fiscal Year 2030, city officials said. The truck was bought through competitive procurement and a current cooperative purchasing agreement.

Once the new truck arrives, the department will move the E-One Typhoon from daily front-line service to reserve status. The city said the standardized fleet should make training and maintenance more consistent across crews.
