Rapper Rick Ross is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 9:30 a.m. on domestic violence charges, a hearing that was pushed back from the previous week. His attorney said prosecutors had not yet formally filed charges and needed more time.
Ross, 50, whose legal name is William Roberts II, turned himself in to Miami Beach police about four weeks ago. He faces charges of battery and battery by strangulation. He spent less than a day in custody before posting bond.
Police say the alleged abuse happened inside his Star Island home in August. According to the arrest report, his then-girlfriend told officers he woke up angry about a social media post and slapped her in the face. She later told police that he accused her of cheating and hit her multiple times.
Miami Beach police spokesperson Christopher Bess said investigators obtained a victim statement, photographs of the injuries and surveillance video. He said that evidence was enough to establish probable cause for the arrest.
Ross has denied the allegations. He called them fabricated, and his attorney has said they expect a quick resolution to the case.
