Florida Atlantic University has received $30 million in state money to start planning a 150,000-square-foot health professions building on its Boca Raton campus. The project, called the Health Professions Clinical Training and Research Facility, would bring future doctors, nurses and social workers under one roof.
The funding arrived in two pieces: $10 million in 2025 and $20 million this year. State Senate Minority Leader Lori Berman and state Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman, R-Highland Beach, helped secure it. It is the first state money the project has received.
The building would bring together students and faculty from FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, and College of Social Work and Criminal Justice. University President Adam Hasner said the facility would strengthen education and research and help the state meet its growing health care needs. He also thanked Gov. Ron DeSantis for his support.
The university wants medical, nursing and social work students to train together before they enter the workforce, a step it says will improve teamwork and coordination of patient care. The building will also include research space, and students in engineering, business and the humanities will have opportunities to take part.
FAU plans to pursue more state funding and private donations. It estimates the building could be finished by early 2030, depending on funding and project development.
