Miami Dade College will resume management and operation of Tower Theater Miami on Nov. 1, returning to the Little Havana landmark it ran for more than 20 years. The college’s Miami Film Festival will oversee programming, rentals and day-to-day operations.

The theater is closed for now while the college and the festival complete facility work. It is expected to reopen to audiences in early 2027, and a public date and programming details will be announced later. Planned upgrades include a sound-transparent Cine LEDMAX screen from LOPU Tech, which would make Tower Theater only the second cinema in the United States with that technology. Other changes include upgraded projection and performance equipment, expanded concessions, new lounge areas, a staffed box office and building repairs.

Existing bookings will be honored, and the college says it is scheduling construction around those events. Groups can submit 2027 rental requests through the theater’s website, TowerTheaterMiami.com.

The venue marks its 100th anniversary in December. A centennial block party is planned beside the theater on Dec. 10, 2026, and organizers will announce details separately. The theater opened in December 1926 next to Domino Park and has long been known for its Art Deco design and for its role in introducing many Cuban exiles to American films.
