The Rotary Club of Coral Springs, working with the local nonprofit Higher Vibe Solutions, hosted a luncheon for 150 first responders on Wednesday at the Coral Springs Police Department. The event marked National First Responders Day.

Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical personnel and 911 dispatchers were served meals from Tijuana Taxi Co. and Laspada’s Subs, both in Coral Springs. The spread included chicken dishes, mashed potatoes, rice, beans, salads and two 3-foot subs. Higher Vibe Solutions, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provided cookies, cupcakes and other desserts.

The lunch followed a morning ceremony in which department personnel honored colleagues who had died. Monica Vargas, head of community relations for the Coral Springs Police Department, said the timing gave the group a chance to lift spirits after that remembrance.
