The City of Deerfield Beach will hand out free fruit trees Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Johnie McKeithen Park. The event is held at the park’s NW 1st Terrace entrance.

The annual Fall Fruit Tree Giveaway offers trees in 3- to 5-gallon containers. Available varieties include mango, guava ‘Ruby Supreme,’ Barbados cherry, longan and jaboticaba.

Trees are free for Deerfield Beach single-family homeowners, and each household may take one. The city distributes them first come, first served, while supplies last. Residents must show proof of residency, and no advance registration is required.

For residents who have wanted to plant fruit at home, the giveaway is a low-cost way to start a backyard tree before the dry season.
