A Margate woman was arrested Oct. 26 after police said she damaged merchandise at the Walgreens at 3000 North State Road 7 and forced the store to close for the rest of the day.

According to a Margate Police Department arrest report, Mareshah Annette Walton, 41, went into the store seeking a refund for a prepaid gift card. Store employees told police that when they said no refund could be issued, she began screaming and causing a disturbance. A manager repeated the answer, and police said Walton became angry and walked up and down the aisles knocking products to the floor.

The report lists beverages, wine, cosmetics and household goods among the damaged items. Officers said Walton was still knocking products down when they arrived. Staff told officers that the noise and behavior sent customers out of the store out of concern for their safety. The manager could not give an exact total but estimated losses of more than $1,000.

Walton was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Officers took her into custody without further incident. She asked for medical help during transport and was taken to Northwest Medical Center before being transferred to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
