Miami quarterback Darian Mensah is putting up record-pace numbers, but he says the Hurricanes have not accomplished much yet. Miami is 5-0 and ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25 after a 41-13 win at Clemson last weekend.

Mensah is completing 84.2% of his passes, with 15 touchdowns and no interceptions. He was near 90% before the Clemson game, well above the FBS record of 77.4% set by Alabama’s Mac Jones in 2020 and matched by Oregon’s Bo Nix in 2023. Coach Mario Cristobal said Mensah was upset with his own performance after the win, which he viewed as a sign of a competitor.

Mensah said he is focused on winning each week. “Nobody gives you a trophy for being 90%,” he said.

The Hurricanes are No. 1 nationally in scoring defense, tied with North Dakota State, and No. 2 in scoring offense. Wide receiver Malachi Toney leads the ACC with 39 catches for 604 yards.

The bye week comes at a useful time. Miami is dealing with injuries in the secondary and offensive line. Florida State visits Hard Rock Stadium’s neighbor, the Hurricanes’ home field, on Oct. 17 in the annual rivalry game, and a possible first-place showdown with Pitt follows the next week.
