Five years after gunfire broke out at a block party in Pahokee, Palm Beach County sheriff’s detectives and the family of the victim are asking the public for help solving the case.
The shooting happened on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, near South Lake Avenue and Daniel Place. Deputies responded around 10:05 p.m. to break up a large gathering. Shots rang out as they tried to disperse the crowd, and attendees ran into nearby streets. Deputies found three people with gunshot wounds, two men and one woman.
De’Joshua Johnson, 31, of Greenacres, died four days later, on Nov. 10, 2021. His family had initially asked for privacy protections under Marsy’s Law. Relatives have since withdrawn that request and are now working with detectives from the Violent Crimes Division to publicly identify him.
No arrests have been made. Detectives have not established a motive or identified a shooter. Investigators believe several people at the gathering saw the shooting or know something useful.
