More than 670 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. gathered at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 9 and 10 for the organization’s annual Cluster 1 Meeting. The Chi Psi Omega Chapter hosted the two-day event, which drew 677 members from across South Florida.
The gathering combined leadership training, professional development workshops and time for members to reconnect. Cluster 1 includes 14 graduate chapters, five undergraduate chapters and general members, with communities stretching from Fort Pierce to South Miami. The cluster represents more than 2,500 sorority members.
The meeting also introduced eight new service targets that take effect in January 2027 under the group’s 2026-2030 administration. Members attended training sessions to prepare them to carry out the initiatives in their own chapters and communities.
Among the leaders attending were Thuane B. Fielding, South Atlantic regional director, and Queen Somers, president of the Chi Psi Omega Chapter. Organizers said feedback from attendees indicated the meeting met its goals of education, stronger relationships and readiness for the coming service work.
The Chi Psi Omega Chapter serves Coral Springs, North Lauderdale, Margate, Parkland, Tamarac and Coconut Creek.
