Miami-Dade sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead Friday morning in a lot behind Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in northwest Miami-Dade.
A landscaping crew working nearby noticed a strong odor coming from the area and called authorities. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent shortly before 9 a.m. to the area of Northwest 24th Avenue and Northwest 68th Street for a report of a sick or injured person. They found an adult man dead at the scene.
Workers told CBS News Miami they believed they smelled a decomposing body. One of them later got close enough to see the man’s hands sticking out of a bush.
Crime scene investigators worked the lot Friday afternoon, and deputies blocked off the area with tape. Authorities have not released the man’s identity or said how he died. The death is classified as an unclassified death investigation, and the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
