Miami blues musician and author Eric “Uncle Scotchy” Garcia joined host J. Adrian Betancourt for Episode 39 of The Miami Book Hub, a video conversation about music, storytelling and his memoir, Uncle Scotchy & The Time Thief.

Garcia, known for his solo shows and his band Juke, talked about caring for his parents and how that work shaped his writing and music. He described his mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and the emotional demands of caregiving. Those experiences, he said, inspired his Blues Opera and later the book.

The episode includes a live harmonica performance and a reading from the memoir. Garcia mixes humor and candor with memories of Miami, while the two discuss family, loss and finding common ground through art.

The episode was produced in partnership with Miami’s Community Newspapers and is available to watch on the publication’s website.
