Steamy Lit, a romance-focused bookstore, will close its Miami Springs location effective Monday, Oct. 26, the company announced. The shop soft-launched in December 2025 and held its grand opening on Jan. 24, 2026, so it will have operated for roughly ten months.
Customers reacted with disappointment on the store’s Instagram post, with several saying they had planned to visit or considered the shop a convenient escape near home. New Times reached out to the store for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
Melissa Saavedra, a Latina business owner and U.S. Navy veteran, founded Steamy Lit as an online shop in 2021. The company later opened stores in Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale, and a Tampa location also opened in 2024. The Deerfield Beach store closed in September 2025, and the Fort Lauderdale store opened the following month. Comments from the company’s social accounts indicate the Fort Lauderdale and Tampa stores will remain open.
The final days are set. A Junk Journaling craft night will go ahead Thursday, Oct. 23, and the store will contact customers about refunds for other canceled events. Customers with in-store pickup orders will be contacted about alternate pickup or shipping. A 25% closing sale runs through the store’s last days.
The company said it will still appear at local events and pop-ups in Miami and will keep selling online.
