A truck fire has closed all northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near Atlantic Boulevard in north Broward County. The Florida Department of Transportation told BocaNewsNow.com the closure was in place as of 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
Broward Fire Rescue crews were on the scene. The fire was reported shortly before the closure, and officials had not said whether the truck itself, its cargo or both were burning.
Drivers should expect major delays northbound south of Atlantic Boulevard until the scene is cleared. FDOT may reopen lanes sooner, but rubbernecking drivers slowing to look at the smoke often extend backups even after that happens.
The source report did not include injury details. BocaNewsNow.com said it would update the story when more information comes from FDOT.
