A new University of North Florida poll of nearly 1,500 likely voters shows the races for Florida governor and U.S. Senate are within the margin of error, making both contests too close to call.
In the governor’s race, Republican Byron Donalds leads Democrat David Jolly 49% to 47%. Four percent of respondents are undecided. The poll’s margin of error is 2.8%. Donalds led by five points in July, before the primaries.
In the Senate race, Republican Ashley Moody, who was appointed last year by Gov. Ron DeSantis, leads Democrat Angie Nixon 49% to 45%. Five percent said they are undecided.
The poll found that most voters are sticking with their parties, but some are crossing over. Eleven percent of registered Republicans said they will vote for Jolly, while 5% of Democrats said they will back Donalds. Independents favor Jolly by 16 points in the governor’s race and Nixon by 15 points in the Senate race.
Pollsters and analysts say turnout, undecided voters and national voting trends could decide both contests. For South Florida voters, the close margins mean the races could turn on a small share of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade ballots.
