Miami Dade College is looking to expand the use of artificial intelligence across its business programs after a meeting with faculty, university leaders and industry representatives. Pamela Fuertes Berti, dean of the college’s School of Business, organized the meeting, which included representatives from Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University and the business community.

The college is examining how to fold AI into accounting, finance, marketing, supply chain management, entrepreneurship and hospitality. Fuertes Berti said the goal is to bring faculty and employers together to decide what students need to know as companies adopt the technology more widely.

The work builds on faculty projects already funded through the college president’s innovation fund. MDC has also launched a bachelor’s degree in applied artificial intelligence.

Fuertes Berti said the college is taking a human-centered approach, with a focus on academic integrity and employer input. Employers, she said, want graduates who can use AI well and also show sound judgment, critical thinking, communication and creativity.

The effort is also meant to help MDC prepare students for jobs in Miami-Dade County as local businesses adopt the tools.
