Swimming is prohibited at four Boca Raton beaches until further notice after the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County found elevated bacterial levels in recent water sampling. The city posted the health advisory on Monday night, Oct. 20.

The affected sites are Spanish River Beach & Red Reef Park Beach, South Beach, and South Inlet Beach Park. Officials said the restriction is a precaution.

The parks and beaches will stay open, but people should stay out of the water. The city said additional samples will be collected, and full use of the beaches could resume within 24 to 48 hours if results improve.

Residents and visitors can check the city’s website for updates or the Florida Healthy Beaches program for more information.
