The City of Hollywood is starting a one-way traffic pilot project on S. 19th and S. 20th avenues between Washington and Jackson streets. The city said the changes are meant to improve traffic flow, parking, neighborhood connections and bicycle safety. Both avenues will switch from two-way to one-way traffic.
The work also includes rebuilt intersection corners and alley connections with ADA-accessible ramps, regraded swale areas to help stormwater drainage, more on-street parallel parking and a dedicated bike lane. Access to homes, businesses and alleys will be maintained during construction. Residents are reminded to keep vehicles off swales, which parking can compact, and the city said such parking is generally prohibited under City Code Section 72.022.
Separately, repairs are underway on the Johnson Street and Sherman Street bridges, which include concrete work, guardrail repair and sheet pile installation. Through December 30, 2026, the Johnson Street bridge will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians, with a detour in place. From December 30 until February 25, 2027, one lane will open under a temporary signal, with eastbound and westbound traffic alternating, and pedestrians will have one side of the bridge.
Boaters should note that the C-10 Canal at the Sherman Street Bridge will be closed to boat traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday during construction.
